Yesterday we had a discussion during Philosophy about "Rights". I posed a question....."Can all kinds of creatures have rights, or just humans?? We discussed whether animals have the right to live or die and who fights for animals rights if the animals can't for themselves. We also talked about the recent trial of Pete Bethune and his involvement with trying to protect whales.

I think that Pete should be allowed to continue to stop whaling because it protects our future of marine life and that any animal should have a right because they all do something for the environment
I think that all animals no matter if they are big or small should have rights and Pete should be allowed to continue to protect whales
I think all living things deserve rights but some people think its their right to make sure other things dont have rights.
(if that makes sense)
like poachers of instance some of them think that elephants are not important or that they are more important than elephants so they injure them and to take there tusks
or the tiger his/her bones can be used for medicine as with her whiskers her skin can be used for decoration or profit and you can eat her/his meat
since we have done all that to her/him they are to endanger
but then some of the people who do these things are poor because of some of the richer people have taken stuff away from them and now they live in a 3rd world country
(which is a silly name because we all live in the same world and could be partially related)
so YES we all deserve right and we should all deserve respect no matter what species.
I think that Pete shouldn't even be trialed because all he was trying to do was protecting an endangered animal.
I think that animals should have rights as long as they aren't a pest to the environment.
I firmly believe that all animals should have the same rights. Every creature has feelings so even though we are smart, Daphney the Cow should still be alive right now. Whaling is bad and the Japanese aren't doing it from a scientific point of view,I could understand killing one whale for science but killing the species is dumb.
I think all animals have rights it's not fair if there not doing anything and bang their dead just for us! I think we get to much of it i think we should just alittle bit not HUGE amounts!!!
