Outdoor Maths
Recently we have taken maths outside the classroom to see where we would need to measure perimeter and area in real life contexts.
With our rulers and maths brains at the ready we calculated the perimeter and area of different objects in the playground.
Here are some pics of the action:-)

The Balmoral Karakia
Learning the Balmoral Karakia is an essential part of our school's history. Let's learn a bit at a time and work on the correct pronunciation. Small steps at a time people!
Karakia Te Kura o Te Roto a Rangi
Tēnei mātou te whanauo Te Kura o Te Roto a Rangi
Here we are the community and
family of Balmoral School
Whakakahangia mātou ki te

Strengthen us and our ability to
respect and look after others
Whakakaūngia mātou ki ā mātou
mahi katoa kia whakapūmautia
ai ngā akoranga o tēnei rā
Help us to persist in all that we do
so that we enjoy the benefits of
our learning

Grease Lightning!!
Over the past term we have been enjoying learning the different dance routines during our Stepz Dance classes. Our instructor taught us a variety of different dances from Latin to Hip Hop to the very popular "Grease Lightning" Although it was challenging at first to get ourselves motivated and coordinated, by the end we would be saying to ourselves "step, out, lean, out" in our sleep...Well I was:-P

What It Takes To Succeed At The Olympics
On Monday the Year 7 Syndicate was very lucky to listen to NZ Olympic swimmer, Danyon Loader speak to us about his success and all the hard work it took for him to be the "Best in the World"
He made some very meaningful comments about working hard, finding the balance between sport/education/social and is winning everything.
Post a comment about your thoughts on being the best you can be and letting that be enough.

Fair play.... what is it??
When someone says to you what is fair play in sports what do you say to them?? When a football player takes a dive and fakes and injury.... or when a boxer punches below the belt....

We are the Survivors of Piha Camp 2012
Despite all weather warnings and the postponement of camp by a day, the Year 7 Turanga Whanau persisted and ventured out to Stedfast Camp at Piha for what would be an adventure!!
Although we had some rain we didn't let that get our spirits down and continued on with the activities planned. Post a comment below and share your highlights from Camp 2012:-)

Up the Mountain We Go!!!!
This term 40 students in four groups from Year 7 set off on the adventure of a life time.....To tramp up to the very top of the Pinnacles. Through bush, rivers, hills and stairs, these young warriors toughed it out to make it through. Even the story of Don Brown, "the baddest man in the whole darn town" came to life once more! The students carried all their food and cooked up a meal to keep them going. The Balmoral Habit of Persistence was key to their success. Here are some photos of the group that I tramped up with! Post a comment if you like.... but be careful what you say.....Don Brown could be watching??!!
