During our philosophy discussion today we were discussing the disturbing events that happened at St Luke's mall involving two Mt Albert Grammar School students. (see link below)
We talked about some of the reasons why we thought this type of behaviour was occurring. We found it quite concerning that a 13 and a 14 year student would behave in such a way. We also discussed the other recent case of students fighting and being recorded on cellphone cameras. Post a comment on what you think about the incident and also why you think this type of behaviour is happening.

I think that the students should be punished and looked after properly.They might have done it because they were under pressure or just got influenced by some other students in the school.
i think they are doing this because they are neglected by their parents and are under a bad influence.

i agree with Robert. i think that they have been hanging out with the wrong crowd but it might be there parentsor family violence
A lot of these things happen if the child is having a depressing time or like what Robert said and they may have got peer pressured into it.
although I don't think they should dump them on the road, they should be punished (not prison) maybe community service is a great think to punish people with.

These people did something very wrong but we don't know if they did this perposefully or not. I agree that they could have done what they did because of family violence, depression, pressure or they're just hanging out with the wrong crowd. They are already expelled from MAGS, but I am unsure what their punishments should be. I think the best option like Onna said was community service. They may learn something and choose better actions is future.
I think they are just some stupid people that stupidly dared or peerpresured the to girls in to doing that or its just the are depressed by iether a family member passed away or family violence but its still stupid.
These people in our thoughts should be punished more then just getting expelled because beating someone up is a really bad thing, and they are really stupid to do it in their school uniforms, if we ever did this (which we wouldn't ever), we would at least not do it in our school uniforms, really beating someone up randomly is one thing but wearing you're school uniform at the time is another thing, really how stupid is that?
I think this whole fight at the mall is dumb and meaningless. One of the reasons the fight happened was probably just to create all crowed at the mall and probably for attention, which they obviously got.
If I was there when it happened I would jump right in and stop all the nonsense. I don't think that the punishment is good enough but I do have one in mind that I can honestly say is something that nobody would want!!!!!!!!.
